Massage Therapy Licensing Program
Massage Therapy Education begins with a state-required 500-hour program that is designed to lead to licensure with the successful completion of a State approved Massage Therapy Licensing Exam. It is the first step in your career as a massage therapist. This program qualifies you to sit for a state approved examination to become a Licensed Massage Therapist in the state of Texas. Currently, Texas recognizes the MBlex Exam along with a state jurisprudence exam or successful completion of the State of Texas Massage Therapy Exam that include Business Practices, Ethics and Massage law and rules as a part of the exam. The choice of exam is up to the massage therapy applicant. Fingerprinting and a criminal background check are required by the State of Texas for licensure.
Non-Western Therapies Certification Program
This 130 hour program combines many common soft tissue therapies provided around the world and throughout history. Traditional non-western practices and theories such as TCM, 5-element theory, yin/yang, Qi/Ki, Source Points Marmas, Pranas, Strotas, Nadi, meridians, Sen lines and Chakras, Non-Western Certification courses are listed in the MTEC Handbook.
Continuing Education
The State of Texas requires all therapists to take a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education every 2 years for license renewal. High quality continuing education courses are available through Barbara White Seminars. Please see the schedule online at https://lymphaticandmassagestudio.com/live-classes/current-seminar-schedule/
Mission statement
Our mission is to train masterfully skilled therapists by providing superior education with a challenging, thorough curriculum; proper working tools; a caring, professional staff; and a positive, supportive environment. We are dedicated to mentoring each of our students into a successful career as professional massage therapist.
Objectives
The objectives of the school are to teach a comprehensive understanding of the structure and function of the human body and to develop proficiency and confidence in the manipulation of soft tissue. This includes the effects of massage therapy through practical working knowledge and the understanding of the State curriculum, as provided by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The school will teach the benefits, effects, and limitations of massage therapy and the judgment necessary to refer clients to other professional health care practitioners when appropriate. The program will cover anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and pathology of the human body, postural analysis, structural balancing, as well as a variety of applied manual techniques to enhance your success in understanding, massage application and marketability. The school will also teach an understanding of self-care, including proper movement during massage for safety and injury prevention. In addition, the school teaches the skills needed for planning, beginning, and successfully operating a business in massage therapy.
Believing that education in massage therapy never ends, MTEC offers continuing education workshops to enhance your skills and marketability as a massage and bodywork practitioner.
Massage as a Career Choice

Massage as a career and its recognition among other health care professions has grown tremendously in recent years. People are now seeking massage by advice from their physicians as well as on their own; both for stress reduction and for chronic pain relief.
With the increasing awareness of massage therapy services, demands for therapeutic approaches are increasing exponentially. Clients are beginning to request specialization and are “shopping” for skilled therapists. The level of education and skills you mass can easily determine your future in the Healing Arts.
Most Massage Therapists are self-employed and take on multiple roles within their field. They provide touch that can directly affect a person’s health; they are healers, business owners and salespersons. The Massage therapist is solely responsible for his or her own success or failure. The most successful therapists are dedicated, educated, and above all, self-disciplined.
