This includes the effects of massage therapy through practical working knowledge and the understanding of the State curriculum, as provided by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The school will teach the benefits, effects, and limitations of massage therapy and the judgment necessary to refer clients to other professional health care practitioners when appropriate. The program will cover anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and pathology of the human body, postural analysis, structural balancing, as well as a variety of applied manual techniques to enhance your success in understanding, massage application and marketability. The school will also teach an understanding of self-care, including proper movement during massage for safety and injury prevention. Believing that education in massage therapy never ends, MTEC offers continuing education workshops to enhance your skills and marketability as a massage and bodywork practitioner.

Massage as a Career Choice
Massage as a career and its recognition among other health care professions has grown tremendously in recent years. People are now seeking massage by advice from their physicians as well as on their own; both for stress reduction and for chronic pain relief.
With the increasing awareness of massage therapy services, demands for therapeutic approaches are increasing exponentially. Clients are beginning to request specialization and are “shopping” for skilled therapists. The level of education and skills you mass can easily determine your future in the Healing Arts.
Most Massage Therapists are self-employed and take on multiple roles within their field. They provide touch that can directly affect a person’s health; they are healers, business owners and salespersons. The Massage therapist is solely responsible for his or her own success or failure. The most successful therapists are dedicated, educated, and above all, self-disciplined.

Academic Standards
Grading
A student is graded on both written and practical exams. To successfully complete each course, a student must achieve a satisfactory grade of 70% or better. The grading scale is as follows:
- 90-100 = A
- 80-89 = B
- 70-79 = C
- 69 or below = unsatisfactory.
Progress Policy
Students will receive a progress evaluation at the end of each month to reflect if the student is making satisfactory progress. A student who is making unsatisfactory progress at the end of a grading period shall be placed on probation for the next grading period. If the student on probation achieves satisfactory progress for the subsequent grading period but has not achieved the required grades for overall satisfactory progress, the student may be continued on probation for one more grading period. When a student is placed on probation, that student will be counseled prior to returning to class, and the date, action taken, and terms of the probation shall be clearly indicated on the appropriate permanent records. If the student on probation fails to achieve satisfactory progress for the first probationary grading period, the student’s enrollment may be terminated. The enrollment of a student who fails to achieve overall satisfactory progress for the program at the end of two successive probationary grading periods shall be terminated. A student whose enrollment was terminated for unsatisfactory progress may reapply for admissions. The Cancellation and Refund Policy shall apply to any student terminated for unsatisfactory progress under this policy. The effective date of termination for purposes of refunds shall be the last day of the last probationary grading period.
Readmission
A student who is accepted for readmission after the enrollment was terminated for unsatisfactory progress shall be placed on probation for the next grading period. The student shall be advised of this action and the student’s file documented accordingly. Students readmitted to a program may be subject to special requirements designed to ensure their success. If the student does not maintain satisfactory progress during or by the end of this probationary period, the student will be terminated with no further opportunity for readmission.

Cancellation Policy
Please note that the $50 registration fee is not considered part of tuition and is non-refundable.
A student will receive a full refund of all monies paid if the student cancels the enrollment agreement within 72 hours (until midnight of the third day excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays) after the enrollment contract is signed by the prospective student.
If tuition is collected in advance of the first day of the program, and if, after expiration of the 72-hour cancellation privilege, the student does not enter the program, not more than $200 shall be retained by the school;
If the student enters the school and is terminated or withdraws, the school will retain $200.00 of tuition and the minimum refund of the remaining tuition will be as outlined below based on 500 clock hours of instruction for the Massage Therapy Licensing Program, or for the specific clock hours of advanced programs:
- Less than 72 hours after the enrollment agreement has been signed, 100%
- during the first week or from 1-50 hours of the program, whichever is less, 90% of the unused tuition, fees and charges;
- after the first week or 1/10th of the program, whichever is less, but within the first three weeks of the program, 80% of the unused tuition, fees, and other charges;
- after the first three weeks of the program, but within the first quarter (1-125 hours) of the program, 75% of the unused tuition, fees, and other charges;
- during the second quarter (126-250 hours) of the program, 50% of the unused tuition, fees, and other charges;
- during the third quarter (251-375 hours) of the program, 10% of the unused tuition, fees, and other charges;
- during the last quarter (376-500 hours) of the program, no tuition refund will be given.
Tuition is charged for all hours offered prior to official termination or withdrawal. During the last quarter of the program the student is considered fully obligated for tuition.
Refunds of items of extra expense to the student, such as instructional supplies, books, student activities, laboratory fees, service charges, rentals, deposits, and all other such ancillary miscellaneous charges, where these items are separately stated and shown in the pre-enrollment information, will be made in a reasonable manner.
In all refund computations, leaves of absence, suspensions, school holidays, days when classes are not offered, and summer vacations shall not be counted as part of the elapsed time for purposes of calculating a student’s refund.
Refunds will be made within thirty days of the earliest of:
- The effective date of termination if the student is terminated, or
- The date of receipt of written notice of withdrawal, or
- 10 instructional days following the first day of the program if the student fails to enter.
BWS CE Workshops
Barbara White Seminars requires a 50% non-refundable deposit at time of enrollment (a 72 hour waiting period is given to cancel w/ full refund). Your seat will not be held until your deposit is received. The balance must be paid in full no later than 7 calendar days prior to class start day. After this point your seat will be awarded to the next in line on the waiting list or if confirmed enrollment is not sufficient, class may be cancelled. Adherence to this policy is a must to avoid unnecessary inconvenience, monetary loss, or lapse of another therapist’s license.
BWS Cancellation Policy
If cancellation is made within the first 72 hours of enrollment a full refund will be made.
If cancellation is made after the initial 72 hours but prior to the 7th day before the first day of class, a refund less the deposit will be made and postmarked no later than 15 calendar days after written cancellation.
BWS Class Transfer…
If you find that you are unable to attend a class that you have placed a deposit on, you may request a transfer to another class that is scheduled within the calendar year without sacrifice of your deposit. This transfer MUST be made no later than the 7th calendar day before the start of the original class enrollment.
If you do need to cancel…
Date verification of written notice will be made by postmark or e-mail date mark. A phone call in advance for notification of your written request is always beneficial and appreciated; however, as verbal conversations tend to leave room for misunderstanding and are non-verifiable, a written notification of transfers and cancellations will be needed. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in keeping our relations smooth. Cancellation e-mail address is barbarawhitemassage@gmail.com
Uncomfortable but necessary words:
We all have life circumstances that create havoc with our plans, however, last minute cancellations and no-shows are a loss to you, the instructor and other students expecting the class. Failure to keep your obligation harms everyone. As a result, no exceptions to the cancellation policy can be made. All students will be held responsible for their attendance, studies, and fiscal responsibilities.
